In response to the passing of Howard W. Schauer

A response to the passing of Howard W. Schauer January 5th, 1929- June 16th, 2009

What is life but a slowly burning candle?
Ignited by The Divine hand, into our existence
The flame burns brightly, steadily, unwavering
Shedding light, on what surrounds it
Sharing warmth, when one is close to it
Flickering
Between existence, and non- existence
Flames burn quickly
Flames burn slowly
To their wicks end.
Darkness falls on its surroundings
When the fire's radiant energy, ceases to exist
Smoke rises, from an extinguished flame
Like a soul ascending into the heavens
Memories, of a once bright burning light
And a now empty vessel, are all that remain.
What was seen was temporary
But what is not seen is eternal.

19 th Annual Juried Photography Exhibition

Wow, I'm a little behind in my blog, but I still wanted to share with my non existent readers, about last months student show and award ceremony and how that all went.
After submitting 7 photographs for consideration by our outside judge, only 5 of them were picked. But I have a feeling she doesn't like weapons because the two that weren't picked involved a shotgun and the other an axe, oh well I still like them. The day of the award ceremony was a good day, I had no expectations of winning anything but I thought it would be nice if I did. So as Rob started giving out awards (Scholarships) for other school accomplishments I knew not to get my hopes up for receiving a scholarship this year, because I thought it would be impossible to get another one sense I received one last year, and surely they wouldn't give one out two years in a row to the same person, but to my shock (and I was pleasantly surprised) My name was called out to receive the Jerry McGlassen Photography Scholarship all for a Job well done or as it says on my award for Outstanding academic achievements. So the award ceremony went on and all the honorable mentions were mentioned and then they got to the top awards, they had two category's - Other and commercial, all my entries were in the Other category.
Rob proceeded in calling out 4th place first, and I won it, in the Other category for my self portrait then he made it up to, the 1st place Other category and I won that also for my light painting called Jacobs ladder ( which is from a series in a book I'm working on called Illuminations Of Revelations). So I left the award ceremony very happy, with a scholarship, 1st place and 4th place. Yay me!!

Below is a slide show of my photographs that were in the show. KEEP MOVING DOWN

AMERICAN OPPOSITION

AMERICAN OPPOSITION

American Opposition is an idea that I started within the last election season. It is based on the controversial issues, which divide us and bring up heated debates amongst the people with whom you dare share your views. With this project, I had a few goals in mind to make it a success: First, I would not share my own views with any of the models. My opinions would not leave my mouth, even if the models spoke negatively about my beliefs. Second, I wanted to find out what made them believe that their views were the right ones and what their views were based on. Third, I wanted to keep the photo shoot simple using a white backdrop for all of them and some form of sign or prop created by the model- uncensored and straight-forward to show their view on the given issue. I chose to use signs because you can’t tell by looking at someone what their views are unless they are wearing something or holding something that outwardly expresses them.
On the issue of who is right, I guess that depends on what you believe. You may wholeheartedly think you are right and that the other is wrong, but you must keep in mind that they feel the same way. So does that mean that someone is wrong in the way they believe? I personally think so, so I’ll say to that: Let’s agree to disagree.

Divided by issues we are united as Americans,
with the freedom to show and voice our views
and opinions regardless of the view point
thanks to our freedom of speech.
